First, but not the last
I just want to give it a try and write a weblog in English; that is, after 4 years of keeping one in Persian - and feeling great about it. Here you can find my notes on almost everything: daily life, movies, books, as well as my views on social and political issues.
The name of the blog comes from a book written by Kazuo Ishiguro, a well-known British-Japanese author. It’s simply what I’d be doing: writing every night about what remains of the day. I love the book and its great translation into Persian by Najaf DaryaBandari.
By the way I gotta work more on my writing. Do encourage me please!
P.S. My very special thanks to one of my best friends, HamidReza, the designer of my blogs. Chaakerim dadash!

Well, congratulations.
Don’t worry about your writing, as long as, the readers get your points; it’s fine and as you mentioned your writing would get better and better, practicing is the key. By the way if you look at some Iranian universities' websites in English, you will be proud of your writing. Even the welcome letter from the president of the university is full of mistakes (and they have PhD form US/England/Canada).
P.S. Please correct my English if you see a mistake but “tu zoogham nazan Abjiii”

it has always been one of the bigest problems of Iranian blogers: we can`t have any kind of comiunication with the world by writing only in Frasi.
congratulate you because of your good decision

Happy new year.Congratulations.hope to be successful
lahiji | March 28, 2006 10:52 PM
Congratulations my dear! I am sure the English one is going to be as successful and interesting as the Persian one. Your English is really good. You never speak to me in English, but I can see that your writing abilities are excellent.
May I, if it's not too cheeky, suggest that you start by writing "correct" and a little bit old fashioned English? It might be a good practice as well, particularly if you ever want to compose academic pieces? Avoid "gonna", "gotta" and things of the sort! Write complete words and sentences and try to make use of clear grammar.
Good luck!
Khodadad | March 29, 2006 02:36 AM
Parastoo jan salam,I am so glad that you started writing in English. I read your blog, but since i was raised in the US it takes me a while to read in Farsi. This is great
Also, sale no mobarak
Laleh | March 29, 2006 02:39 AM
Dear Parastoo,
"The Remains od the Day" is a famous movie featuring Sir Anthony Hoppkins and was nominated for Oscar as Best movie and Actor in 1993 I guess.
Write: nothing like writing would give some1 the utmost pleasure. Unforetunately I have not been writing!

One of my best friends here at work (California) is a Persian and I want to learn as much as I can about his homeland. Having traveled to many countries in the world, I have learned that one cannot totally accept the view of a country through newspapers and television. People need to talk with and listen to people from countries like yours to really understand what "real" people are like! Please keep up the great work and I look forward to reading your Blog on a daily basis.

Hi,
Your English is pretty good! I wanted to ask you if its ok to give a link to your persian weblog. I have recently started a weblog, and hopefully it turns out ok! Cheers :)
Nassim | March 29, 2006 09:53 AM
hey parastoo! do you realize your name and weblog was on yahoo's news about irans weblogs? thats quite an achievement! by what i've read so far, im impressed. keep it up!
yassy | March 29, 2006 01:00 PM
Good for you for taking the initiative to start writing in English. They are a lot of Iranians who have trouble reading Farsi, and they'd appreciate your effort.
Ayeh | March 29, 2006 02:38 PM
Very good start. Very readable style, and good content! (That's all; the rest is suggested punctuation, mostly.)
Rainy day, not romantic one
March 29, 2006
It was a rainy day; very rainy, in fact, for a friend of mine. As he walked down the street, his cell phone slipped out of his pocket right through a sewer grate's hole - and straight into the canal itself. There was nothing he could do, not even inform the telecommunication company to block the SIM. It is Norouz, and everything is closed 'til Monday. But it isn't bad after all. He will buy a better cell phone.
P.S. Our plan to go to the cinema turned out to be a disaster as well. All the cinemas were closed today, as tomorrow is an official day of mourning in Iran; a holiday! It is the day prophet Mohammad passed away nearly 1400 years ago.

Poor but happy
March 28, 2006Most of the people in Yerevan, Armenia are poor. There are not enough job opportunities and the daily earnings (or wages) are very low.

Parastoo,
Greetings from the US. It's nice to get a fresh look from a real person about everyday life in Iran. Keep up the good work, and feel free to write back.

here is one young concerned global citizen (who was born and lives in the USA) who wants to learn more about the day to day thoughts and lives of people in different cultures. i hope to learn from you and hopefully help to bridge our countries (even if just a tiny bit...every little step helps, right?).
keep up the good work, and THANK YOU!!!

Salam Parastoo jan,
I am an American who has been corresponding with a number of Iranians since 2003. Since then,I have held a special place in my heart for my Iranian friends. From e mails, to IM's, to phone conversations, I have come to know, respect, and honor a people I believe to be among the kindest people I have known. In 2004 I made a visit to Tehran and had the pleasure of meeting many of my friends...it was an incredible journey.
On April 28th I will be traveling to New York, as I was invited to participate in a conference on writers who write to help free themselves from tyranny. I will be discussing my friendship with Persians I have met, my letter writing to them, phone conversations, and my visit as well.
After reading your last entry,"Crying Virtually", I was moved by your writing. Please do not give up hope my dear, and keep writing. As an American who does not have an easy life (as many would think that we all do), I too will not give up hope, though I have been through many hardships including homelessness. It was my hardships that began my writing, lead me to pursue an English degree, and to devote my future to teaching. As much as I struggle, when times are hardest for me, I think of my Iranian friends and it gives me inspiration...that if they can manage, so can I.
I am determined to help Americans understand, through my published articles, my book, and conferences like the one in New York, that Iran, it's people, and it's culture is worthy of our acceptance...and I will do my best to help be a part of re-building the bridge that once existed between us.
If you would like to have a friend from America to correspond with, please feel freee to write to me at MetalFumeFever@hotmail.com
I would be honored to make your aquaintence.
